Designer: Grant & Mary Featherston - Australia

Year: 1973-74

Condition Report: Good vintage condition. Upholstery presents nicely, yet does show signs of use and wear. Original foam and plastic base.

.

An icon piece of local Australian Design, The Numero VII sofa was centred around a use of minimal materials, modularity and volume production techniques to create what was an incredibly unique and practical lounge option for Australian’s.

While most foam furniture of the time was cut to shape, the Featherston’s took a different approach, working with local automotive seat manufactures who used a chemical process to inject, expand and form foam seating within a mould. This allows for much more flexible restraints on organic forms, and ultimately allowed the Numero VII to come to life.

The modular nature allows it to easily fit into a range of spaces, whether set up as a corner setting, or set in a line for a more classic look, the ability move the lightweight pieces around makes for a very practical option in a contemporary setting.
