A pair of early edition 'Ant' Chairs by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen

Very early edition Ant chairs in a classic painted black finish. A steam bent laminated construction makes up the seat and backrest in one continuous piece, sitting atop a chrome tripod base.
The chair was originally designed for the canteen at Novo Nordisk, an international Danish healthcare company, but nearly ended up as another one of Jacobsen’s prototypes because he wasn’t convinced of its potential. Novo ordered only 300 at the time.
It wasn’t until the 4 leg was added in later editions that the chair gained traction, and since both he 3 and 4 legs models have been in production by Fritz Hansen.
These early editions were produced in far more limited numbers due to the initial struggles with selling the chair. Well worn, this pair is not best suited for daily use due to cracking with age, yet make a great piece for collectors or to have in the corner of a room or entrance way for a quick sit while putting shoes on or similar.
