ROCKING STOOL BY ISAMU NOGUCHI FOR VITRA
Designer: Isamu Noguchi
Maker: Vitra - Germany
Year: 1954 (2000s Edition)
Size: W/D 359 x H 419
Condition Report: Great second hand condition. minor wear consistent with age.
.
In removing the unnecessary points of contact with the ground, Noguchi created a dynamic and fluid stool, which moves and adjusts with the user and the subtle changes they make.
The Rocking Stool is centred around the idea that to support anything in a stable way, only 3 points of contact with the ground are needed. Pushing this idea forward, we see our own two legs provide 2 of the supports, leaving a rocking ‘Cyclone’ base for the final support.
This piece is a fantastic example of furniture working with the user in a unique, but incredibly successful way.
