The ‘Tuff-Duff’ side table, designed and crafted by Gerard Dombroski from his Wellington workshop.
A compact flat-packable side table constructed in steel. No screws & no welding, the table slots together and is held fast by timber pins, referencing Gerards love for Japanese slot and pin timber construction. Offering a unique materiality, the raw (or oiled) steel and timber pins showcase each material in it’s natural form, allowing the table to patina beautifully with age.
Practically indestructible, the slotted design allows for adjustment on the central shelf to three different heights, and ensures the piece can move and travel with you over time, compacting down to a few sheets of flat steel for transport. Flat pack self-assembled furniture has a strong history of making designed objects more financially accessible. This project continues that sentiment but does not compromise design or durability.
