VINTAGE '9091' MELODIC WHISTLING KETTLE by RICHARD SAPPER for ALESSI

Condition Report: Great vintage condition. Base and inside shows signs of wear with use. A few minor scratches and heat marks to the steel body and handle. Whistles have been replaced to ensure kettle functions as it should.

The 9091 Kettle features two brass whistles that play a pleasant harmonious melody once the water reaches boiling point. The aim of designer, Richard Sapper, was to create a kettle that would please more than just one sense. The sculptural kettle is constructed in mirror-polished stainless steel, and the undulating handle in black polyamide. The whistle can be lifted off the spout with the mechanism located under the handle, providing easy access for filling and pouring.
Inspired by a childhood remembrance, the poetic sound of boats' sirens at River Rhine inform the melodic tune of the whistle. Unlike the usual kettle whistle that feels more of an anxious tone, the pleasant tune offers a much more relaxing sound for that early morning coffee are afternoon cup of tea.
Like many of Alessi’s products, parts are replaceable to ensure the longest life possible for the object. We have replaced the brass reed whistles with a brand new set from Alessi, ensuring it will sing for years to come.
