.
An instantly recognisable form, the PH5 lamp is an evolution of the original design language established with the PH3, a lamp developed in 1925 for a large exhibition hall in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The PH5 provides a primarily downward illumination. It is based on the principle of a reflecting multi-shade system, creating a harmonious and glare free glow. Achieved by the lampshade with several concentric shades, all working together to diffuse the light and prevent any harsh glare.
The PH in the name of this lamp stands for Poul Henningsen and the 5 represents the diameter of 50 cm. Designed in 1958, it later received an iF Design Award in 1971, a testament to the timeless style of the shade, still as relevant as ever in todays interior world.
An excellent original colour combination, the shade is predominantly white, with subtle red and purple details up close.
Rewired for current use, it has a wall plug attached, but works best when professionally installed directly into the ceiling.
