Initially manufactured in fiberglass as seen in this original version, it was more recently switched to polypropylene for environmental reasons.

The Eamses had a unique way of naming each piece of furniture they designed. DSX simplifies the core components of the chair into a simple code. D (dining height) S (side chair) X (X-base).
